1st March Under 9 Division 3 Dover Rangers 1 – 0 Canterbury Youth Colts

Canterbury Youth U9 Colts final game of the season was an away match to the very much, in-form team of Dover Rangers, with a win for either team giving the distinct possibility of claiming the Division 3 title. Good weather and playing conditions coupled with an excellent turn-out of supporters for both teams allowed the match to be played to an almost cup final style atmosphere.

Throughout the first half both home and away sides experienced periods of good possession and passing football resulting in numerous chances going begging until the dead-lock was finally broken by the Dover outfit after a slight defensive error from the Canterbury side making the half time score 1-0.

Canterbury’s best chances fell to man-of-the-match Charlie Jordan with his headed opportunity being saved on the goal line and William Pearson seeing his left foot effort hit the post. Dover’s solid defensive play and ability to break down the Canterbury attacks were the decisive factors in this well- played out game of football with the final score being 1-0 to the home side.

Canterbury Youth Colts 5 – 2 Herne Bay Youth

Canterbury Youth U9 Colts welcomed Herne Bay Youth to the U.K.C for what was to be an exciting, well fought out and enthusiastic game of football.

With there goalkeeper out injured Canterbury made key changes to there line-up, which proved successful from the start. With Michael Kelley and Jack Sutton playing in there familiar roles at the heart of the defence and Charlie Jordan controlling the mid-field, Herne Bay found it difficult going and never really tested the Canterbury keeper.

The home team pressurised for long periods of the first half with two good chances falling to Ryan Todd forcing saves from the away keeper. Canterbury were eventually rewarded for their efforts when Oscar Lindsey was brought down in the area resulting in a penalty which was converted with ease by the recipient of the foul giving a 1-0 advantage at halt-time.

Herne Bay started brightly in the second half and they soon found themselves equalizing with a fine effort. This provoked the Canterbury boys into a ten-minute on-slaught resulting in Lindsey converting his second penalty after a defender caught the ball from a corner, Seth Rice scoring a superb solo effort and Lindsey securing his hat-trick making the score 4-1. Herne bay responded to this and scored there second after an earlier shot had hit both posts and was cleared off the line only into the path of the attacking away side reducing the deficit to 4-2. From the re-start Canterbury put the game to rest with man-of-the-match Lindsey scoring his fourth coming from a well-worked move making the final score 5-2 to the Canterbury side.

Canterbury Youth U9 Colts faced Red Arrow Youth at their cold and windy Ramsgate venue. Playing and weather conditions determined a different style of play from Canterbury with the idea of a quick rotational game but within 3 minutes of the kick-off they found themselves 1-0 down to an excellent goal from the first Red Arrow attack. Quick substitutions followed the re-start and it was left to captain William Pearson to provide the equaliser completing a well-measured move. Canterbury continued the trend with goals from Seth Rice (2) and Oscar Lindsey giving the away side a 4-1 advantage at half time.

Red Arrow started the second half much as the first and found themselves scoring a possible goal of the match contender bringing the score back to 4-2. Chances for both teams in the second half were limited with much of the play being fought out in the middle of the pitch.

William Pearson saw one of Canterbury’s better chances go just wide which would have put the game out of Margate’s reach so it was up to Canterbury’s man of the match goal keeper Tom Peppiatt to keep the Margate side at bay with some excellent work between the posts.
